We may need to be more rounded in our outreach for sponsors. We need to start thinking like Marketers. We need to market ourselves to get sponsors. We need to think like sponsors, too.
Thinking like PS (Potential Sponsers)/ Sponsors:
-Questions they may have for us:
a.Where will you see my company’s ads/promo’s?
b. Why should I give GCRG my money?
c. How are you involved in the community?
Question we need to ask ourselves: Who are we trying to Sponsor us?
I. Community Involvement
I. We won’t get noticed by many potential sponsors (PS) if we do not get out there in the community.
II. For example:
I. We had a fundraiser that was a lot of fun, but it wasn’t family-friendly (so there goes that cohort/population of PS’ers). (And I’m not trying to be ugly, I’m trying to be honest. I love you guys.) Most of those who came were people who knew us already, our friends, family, and supporters came by. It was at a bar, in Sulphur (not many people to target). Plus, it sends a message (not a strong message, but it’s still there. That our values are not aligned with the majority of our community/ PSers). We lost the attention of mothers, fathers, and kids that day.
II. If we go to a Free to Breathe Lung Cancer walk, and more than just 2 people go (like they say, there’s power in numbers), then we really get noticed. Moms, dads, kids- a large amount of diverse people will be there. Walking with us, and asking questions about us. Who we are, and what we stand for. Little girls will be there seeing us, and they’ll be asking Mom and Dad to go see us at a game. Or “Wow! That’s cool!” Yes, steal the hearts of little girls and win the sponsorship of their parents (okay, maybe that’s a little dark, but you get the idea).
III. There lies the question: who are we trying to sponsor us? How many successful business owners are going to go to a local bar and think ‘Hey, I see these ladies, who are at a bar, Let me see if I can donate some money to their cause..which is? What do they support again?’ WE ARE MORE THAN A PRETTY FACE ON WHEELS! We are EMPOWERMENT on WHEELS!
IV. What are our values?
I. Some that come to mind from a Freshie's POV: Encouragement, empowerment, independence, teamwork, confidence every little girl should have instilled to flourish in our community
II. Vets? What do you think?
II. Sponsoring us is more than just an ad!
I. It’s a display of support for a supportive organization.
II. When we treat our sponsors more than just an ad and money, PSers will notice.
III. They will think 'I am backing an ideal: you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.'
We are community-driven.
IV. If we support a great cause that a potential sponsor (PS) feels for (like the NAMI Suicide Prevention and Mental Illness Walk and if a large portion of the team is there), we get noticed. They ask us who were are, what we are about, what we stand for. We show them we are a good investment.
V. If we acknowledge and promote our sponsors at not only bout events, but also other community events………
III. Why just promote our sponsors with our bout advertising?
I. Why not acknowledge and promote our sponsors at not only bout events, but also community events too?
II. If we tell PS that we promote our sponsors at other events, it may make them more inclined to sponsor us.
I.Reason: How many people are going to see my business at a not-even-monthly bout? Not even 500 BUT!!!
II. How many people are going to notice my business at monthly events and bouts? 9000!! Okay, well, A lot more than just a bout. AWESOME
III. Like the States on Skates KPLC event: if we had our sponsors stuff in the background, then they would have been on tv, too (great for our sponsors)
To Sum It All UP:
Let's start getting ourselves out there, let's show the community we care about them, and express our values in our numbers united in our organization. We are POWEFUL ladies. Let those dads out there see us, and think, 'My daughter needs to join their Hurricane Belles team! Look at what they stand for!" Let's use it for our benefit as well as our community!
